If you are interested in following Red Sox prospects, I hope that you are satisfied with our website. Though it is mostly barren (every post except one is copied and pasted directly from our Instagram) everyone has to start somewhere!
The fact that you are here probably means that you are at least mildly interested in the going-ons of the Boston Red Sox organization. If you are, this particular off-season has been particularly......not normal. The Sox's first move this offseason was replacing president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski with the Chaim Bloom. This move came as response to Dombrowski being let go in September 2019, less than a year after the team won the World Series. Surprisingly, this move may have been the most normal thing to happen this offseason. The Red Sox do have a history of changing executives shortly after winning the World Series with Theo Epstein leaving for the Cubs less than four years after the 2007 World Series and Ben Cherington resigning less than two years after the 2013 series.
The second not normal thing to happen this off-season was the firing of the well-liked, player-friendly manager Alex Cora. This move would probably sound confusing had you not opened up the internet or listened to the news over the past five or six months, but for the rest knew that it was coming after Cora was implicated in the Houston Astro's 2017 sign-stealing scandal when he served as their bench coach and was accused of stealing signs with the Red Sox in 2018. Though the move was inevitable, the circumstances that caused it were definitely not normal.
The third not normal thing to happen this offseason was trading the face of the franchise Mookie Betts in a deal that sent him, along with starter David Price, to the Los Angeles Dodgers for young and promising outfielder Alex Verdugo and prospects Jeter Downs
and Connor Wong. While the Red Sox and Betts were more than $100 million apart in contract negotiations, it is curious that there weren't reports of the Red Sox attempting to make a counter offer at least a little closer to Betts' number. For reference, in 2019 Bryce Harper received a 13 year/$330 million contract from the Phillies and the Red Sox offered Betts a 10 year/$300 million extension. According to MLB Network's top 100 right now, Betts is the currently the 4th best player in baseball and Harper is 33rd.
Finally, the last most normal thing to happen this off-season maybe one of the most not normal things to happen in the history of baseball: Spring Training being cancelled and the start of the MLB and MiLB seasons being delayed due to a pandemic.

So, there it is. No baseball until further notice. Right now we should be monitoring the progress and performance of Red Sox prospects. Could one of them fill in the fifth spot in the starting rotation? Who will be the first call-up of the season? These are typical questions that we would be trying to figure out at the moment, but instead we have nothing.
However, the show must go on. We are Red Sox Prospect Watch after all, and not everything that prospects do are related to baseball. Normally, we mostly take note of the baseball side of Red Sox prospects, but as previously mentioned, this is one of the most not normal things to happen in the history of baseball.
So, without further ado, let's see what Red Sox prospects are up to after two days of no baseball.
Heartbroken over this man...we were just tryna ball with our bros...— Alex Scherff (@alexscherff23) March 12, 2020
Here is pitcher Alex Scherff on how he feels about the situation. If you are unfamiliar with the wording of this tweet, Scherff is referencing the cinematic masterpiece 'Just tryna ball with my bros w/Nick Colletti' featuring internet comedians Nick Colletti and Casey Frey.
Meanwhile, for prospect Josh Ockimey it has been business as usual even after receiving the news.
Brayan Bello has traded his Jaeger Bands for Fortnite skins in an attempt to catch some dubs before having to return to the field. But don't play for too long though, Brayan! Fortnite has been known to take away player's ability to pitch at Yankee Stadium!
Y’all come see me at the Town Tavern in Fort Mill 😅😂— Brett Netzer (@BrettNetzer) March 13, 2020
While Bello chooses to ride out the virus indoors, Brett Netzer has shown that he's not afraid to take to the streets during these not normal times. He may or may not make an appearance at his local watering hole.
Speaking of watering holes, prospects Kutter Crawford, Dylan Hardy, and Chase Shugart recently visited one when they attended a concert for country artist Koe Wetzel. Just some good ol' country boys having some good ol' country fun!
